'And the winner is....' The title sounds a bit like an Oscar awards ceremony. There are thousands of weight loss tips, but unlike the acting profession, there are no nominations. It's a difficult job to wade your way through all the hype, all the fads, pills and potions and come to a conclusion as to what weight loss program to follow.

One of the greatest problems people who want to lose weight have today is making a decision as to what to do. Friends are always there to give their views, but their opinions, although genuinely given, may well be a form of help rather than informed advice.

People react differently to weight loss programs. We are all made differently and we react in different ways. We have different levels of resolve and commitment too. Some people like a punishing regime that makes them feel as though they are actually doing something because they can feel the pain. Others would rather take things at a more gentle pace and know what they are doing.

Whatever the case, the greatest problem that exists in the weight loss industry is that diets don't work. That may be a little unfair. Diets do work if you want to lose weight in the short-term and you don't mind if the weight comes back again. What diets don't deliver is permanent weight loss. Permanent weight loss is what everybody wants and very few people get. No wonder that the worldwide obesity crisis shows no sign of slowing down.

We are the sum of our habits. If we want to lose weight permanently, we have to change. Change means doing things differently, getting rid of the bad habits that make us fat and learning new habits, new slim habits. The result is permanent weight loss.
