Energy Regulator to Publish Findings

An energy regulator is set to publish its findings from an inquiry that was started back in February.

The investigation looked into leading suppliers' gas and electricity prices due to the imposed big price increases that occurred around the same time.

The energy regulator has been looking for any signs of collusion within the utilities markets that would show that they are perhaps being traded incorrectly. This comes after some MPs have already called for these markets to be reformed urgently.

The investigation meant that the company had to trawl through information at leading electricity and gas suppliers, such as, internal emails and minutes from meetings, in an attempt to discover the evidence and information that they were expecting to find.

One of the main concerns of the energy regulator was regarding the tariffs paid by those members of the public who use pre-payment meters.

The energy regulator holds a lot of power and when it comes to making changes in the way energy companies do their business and they could call for any changes they saw fit to be imposed on the suppliers. It may even be possible that the company will call for an even more in-depth inquiry by the competition commission if they are not happy with the results from their investigation.

Whilst you're waiting for these results to be published, it may be worth your while comparing the prices of gas and electricity at different suppliers, as you may find that you can save a lot more money with a different supplier than the one you are currently with.
