Eye Twitching Getting Annoying?

Blinking over and over again is no fun. It can be annoying and embarrassing. This is simply what is known as eyelid twitch or eyelid spasm. A case of severe eyelid spasm is the worst. A person suffering from this kind of eyelid spasm is liable to experience obstruction of vision, irritability and even a complete closure of the eye. The economic cost and social embarrassment of a situation like this can only be imagined. Addressing how best to treat patients with such severe cases should come first before that of minor cases.

Despite the side effects that come with the use of botulism injection (i.e. drooping eyelid, blurred vision and double vision) in the treatment of chronic eyelid spasm, it is still one of the widely accepted and effective way of getting rid of the ailment. The side effects which are temporary, soon disappeared after some days with little or no medication. The injection is administered by injecting doses of it into areas around the eyes specifically the upper lid muscles, the brow and the lower muscles. Patients stand a good chance of experiencing relief within a period of two weeks after treatment. Most patients said they were completely cured of the ailment after three to four months on the medication.

Drugs like Artane (trihexyphenidyl, Cogentin (benztropine), Valium (diazepam), Klonapin (clonazepam), Lioresal (baclofen), Tegretol (carbamazepine), Modopar, Parlodel (bromocriptime) and Symmetrel (amantadine) have been discovered to be effective in treating severe eyelid twitch. However, caution must be taken in making use of these drugs because a drug may be effective with one patient and of no effect with another . It is advisable to be under the watchful eyes of a neurologist when using the above drugs.
