Weight Loss - Overcome Binge Eating Today

Do you suffer from binge eating? This disorder can make weight loss difficult, but you can help yourself to overcome it. There's no need to feel guilty or embarrassed.

"Binge" eating is an eating disorder in which the sufferer eats enormous amounts of food at one time, much more than they would usually consume. It's estimated that as many as four million Americans have this order.

It can be dangerous to your health, because you can become malnourished. When you binge, it's on high sugar/ high fat foods, rather than on foods which are healthy.

Here are three strategies to help you to control your binges.

1. Your Primary Tool: a Food Diary

Researchers feel that for many sufferers, binges are triggered by their emotions. There may be metabolic processes involved too. It's essential that you become aware of:

* Possible binge eating triggers;
* What you eat during a binge attack; and
* Your emotions.

Your primary tool to help you to overcome binge eating is a food diary.

Get a notebook, and start writing down the time, everything you eat and drink, and how you feel before you ate, and when you finished eating.

Don't diet, or try to change what you're eating. Trying to diet can make you more susceptible to binges. Your food diary is simply a way to record what's happening, and to allow you to acknowledge it. Accepting what's happening will go a long way to eliminating the disorder for good.

2. Relax Away Stress

Next, learn Progressive Relaxation. Many hospitals offer Progressive Relaxation courses for people with chronic pain. Learning deep relaxation is helpful for binge eating, because it will help you to master your emotions and will build your confidence, while eliminating stress.

You can buy Progressive Relaxation courses on CD or tape too, if none are available locally.

3. Hypnosis May Help

Finally, hypnosis may help you too. Your food diary will be very useful when you visit a hypnotherapist. Once you've kept the diary for several weeks, you'll have a greater knowledge of what's happening with you. The hypnotherapist can use this information to help you to shorten your binges, increase the time between them, and finally to eliminate them altogether.

Try the above strategies with your binge eating. They will help. You'll feel much better about yourself. Any weight loss which occurs will be a bonus.
