Are Diet Pills Addictive?

Consuming diet pills without seeking the advice of the doctor could cause dangerous health hazards. These pills are unfortunately available online and people who are ignorant of the side effects consume them which lead to serious health hazards.

Some of the pills contain harmful substances which are highly addictive, especially because people who consume these supplements start using them regularly to control body weight instead of opting for a healthy diet plan and a regular exercise routine.

Currently, there are widespread scams of diet pills claiming miraculous weight loss results. In truth, they contain synthetic chemicals which could cause serious irreversible damages to the body. Sometimes, the concentration of substances lead to imbalance in the levels of nutrients presents in the body causing health complications.

The common addictive agents found in these pills are ephedrine, caffeine, and phenylpropranolamine. Some of the herbal pills advertised also contain undisclosed substances that may cause addiction on regular consumption of the pills.

These pills do not fall under the category of drugs and hence, they need not get the approval of the USFDA (Food and Drug Administration) before penetrating into the market.

Some of the complications of these addictive pills include unhealthy weight loss, nausea, vomiting, dehydration, headaches, blood pressure, anxiety, depression, withdrawal symptoms, insomnia, perspiration, irritability, dizziness and diarrhea.

The weight loss pills do not assure indefinite weight maintenance unless a healthy exercise routine and a well balanced diet is taken in conjunction with the treatment.

Since diet pill addiction has become a major health problem, there are counselling centres available to treat people who are victims of this addiction.
